They've got quite a nice blokey relationship and Steve actually talks fondly to Becky about hanging out with Dan! What was it like going back to explore these characters' pasts? Russell: "It was so weird but brilliant fun. It was just me and Sarah for a lot of it and it felt like the pilot. We did a pilot that was never televised and it was just me and her. Originally when Stefan came up with the concept, it was just going to be Steve and Becky - him and her - and everything else would be 'noises off'.
Sarah: "It was so nice to revisit that feeling I've been seeing someone for six years and to knock on the door of someone that you really fancy and hoping it's going to go well But it was lovely to go back to that place - it's a charming episode. A big part of why fans responded to both shows, though, was the ordinariness of the characters and settings, and the keenly-observed details that we recognised from our own lives. Who actually has one of those circle things for cutting up pizzas? That was just meant to be a slice of life. Sarah is more cautious: "If it doesn't go again, we feel like we've interrogated these characters and it's really nice in television to be able to call it a day when you want to.
It's nice to come full-circle with these characters and I think all our fans will feel that the time is right to stop. Type keyword s to search.
